PROMISCES Decision Support Framework for risk management of PM(T) in a circular economy
Whether you’re a water operator, chemical industry actor or a policymaker, the DSF offers guidance!
The Decision Support Framework (DSF) is a tool developed within the PROMISCES project to support decision-making in managing persistent, mobile, and potentially toxic substances (PM(T)s) in the environment. The DSF is designed to assist regulatory authorities, industry professionals, and researchers in managing the risks of PM(T) substances in the soil-sediment-water cycle.
The DSF provides a structured approach for diagnosing substances, identifying solutions, and formulating strategies to ensure the safe reuse and recovery of resources while minimizing environmental and human health risks. By integrating research outcomes, external databases, and stakeholder input, the DSF enables users to visualize data, compare scenarios, and make informed decisions based on scientific evidence, practical/technical implications, and regulatory requirements.
The DSF is structured into five modules:
- 1) The PMT assessment module which can be used by users to verify if a substance is persistent, mobile, and/or toxic according to multiple data sources
- 2) The Diagnosis module assists the user in getting a personalized diagnosis for a PM(T) case to support solution assessment
- 3) The Solutions module helps to find solutions for preventing, assessing, monitoring and treating PM(T) substances
- 4) The Strategies module provides guidance and examples of developing strategies for PMT substances across sectors
- 5) The Search Substances module can be used to explore PM(T) chemicals across various chemical classes and sectors of use
