PFAS are present throughout the environment: in soil, surface water, groundwater, sludge and wastewater. This makes their regulation difficult. To date, various regulations address PFAS in specific matrices, but they do not address the role that PFAS play in working towards a circular economy. PROMISCES has developed several recommendations for policymakers at European and national levels to enhance PFAS management.

The PROMISCES Policy Brief

The PROMISCES policy brief (Deliverable 5.3) identifies regulatory gaps and urgent concerns related to PFAS and other chemicals in Europe. It presents:

- data analysis on high-risk sectors where PFAS are used

- local stakeholder insights on barriers and solutions to address PFAS in a circular economy

- a concept for a Decision Support Framework that provides solutions for preventing,  monitoring, assessing the risk of & removing PFAS.

Our 9 Policy Recommendations

The PROMISCES Policy Recommendations Deliverable addresses the urgent need for harmonized regulations of PFAS and other substances which pose risks to human and environmental health.

We also did a short summary of our 9 Policy Recommendations!

Joint Policy Brief

Together with our sister projects from the Green Deal Health Cluster, we published a Joint Policy Brief: “Achieving zero pollution by 2050 needs regulatory change: a call for policy support of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)".

The Policy Brief was developed especially for policymakers. It provides key findings and recommendations from the cluster that are deemed essential to achieve the goal of a zero-pollution in Europe.
