PROMISCES Final Rollout Event and NICOLE Spring Workshop 2025
April 8, 2025
On 27th and 28th of March, the PROMISCES Final Roll-out Event took place in collaboration with the NICOLE Spring Workshop 2025 on "Working towards solutions for emerging, persistent mobile industrial contaminants - Circular Economy in the Soil-sediment-water system".
This year’s topic centered on finding solutions for persistent and mobile industrial contaminants to enable a circular economy within the soil-sediment-water system. Around 180 participants from academia and industry came together to exchange knowledge, showcase recent achievements, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The PROMISCES project was introduced by Julie Lions, the project coordinator, followed by a keynote speech by Anne Togola. Anne’s keynote emphasized the critical importance of knowledge transfer between academia and industry. The project was well represented by its partners, who contributed as session chairs and presented their results to the audience.
The event was structured around four key topics:
- Monitoring, modelling and risk assessment
- Taking action
- Innovation – Advancing solutions
- Exploring challenges beyond PFAS - emerging concerns, policy and regulatory
frameworks
Each session concluded with a group discussion involving the presenters. In addition, poster presenters were invited on stage to pitch their work and encourage attendees to visit their posters.
To showcase the results of PROMISCES, participants were invited to explore the Exploitation Corner, where they could interact with the Decision Support Framework (DSF) tool using guidance cards that included small tasks to be completed with the help of the DSF. Attendees also had the opportunity to preview the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled “Course on Persistent Micropollutants: PFAS”, as well as a video dedicated to PFAS communication.
A heartfelt thank you to all chairs and speakers for their contributions to a successful event!
